Well folks winter is here again and for those of us dedicated outdoorsman who have already filled their deer tags and are patiently waiting for the lakes to freeze. We can get the ice fishing gear dusted off and wait! Well while your waiting now is the perfect time to get out trapping!
Early winter can be one of the best time to get some nice fur bearing animals. Even with the fur market being a little low right now trapping is still important to help control predation and over population in our favorite wildlife spots. It helps keep our enviornment in check and it can put a little extra money in your pocket as well.
I just wanted to share a quick tip for setting coniber traps (body grippers) early in the season for coons! Coons put on a great thick coat this time a year which yields a great price. I like to set a 220 coniber in a bucket set just next to any slow moving creeks or runoffs this time of year. Where leagal I like to bait the back of the bucket with frozen fish scraps or coon urine for a good sent trail. Coons are foragers and very open to a free meal. This set presents a perfect opportunity for the animal to enter the bucket straight on and leaving with a good solid humane kill. So get out there and try it and send us back some feed back on your success we would love to here it...
